Do we need to install hardware in the vans?
No hardware needed. SmartVan uses the driver’s smartphone GPS — the same technology every navigation app uses. No installation, no devices to manage.
How do parents get access?
Once your school is live, you send parents a link. They download the free SmartVan app, search for your school, add their child, and they’re connected. The parent app is always free — no subscription, no credit card.
How long does setup take?
Most schools are fully live within a single afternoon. Creating your school profile, adding vans, uploading routes and inviting drivers typically takes 2–3 hours. Our onboarding team is available to guide you through every step.
What happens if a driver doesn't have a smartphone?
We recommend a basic Android phone running Android 9 or above — available new for under $50 in most markets. For Pro and Enterprise plans we can provide device management support.
Is student data kept private and secure?
Yes. SmartVan is GDPR-compliant. Student data is encrypted at rest and in transit. We never sell or share data with third parties. Each school controls their own data, and deletion requests are honoured within 30 days.
